Adjective Clauses

Adjective Clauses

à Adjective clause: Is a dependent, clause that modifies a noun. It describes, identifies, or gives further information about a noun.

It consists of:

1. Clause: Is a group of words containing a subject and a verb.

a. Independent clause: A clause which can stand alone it contains the main

subject and verb of sentence.

b. Dependent clause : A clause which can’t stand alone.

2. Relative pronoun: is pronoun that has a function to relate dependent and independent clause.

a. Subject pronoun

► Who : Use for people.

Example : The little girl is my niece. She is in the garden.

ð The little girl who is in the garden is my niece.

► Which: Used for things

Example : The cats belong to my brothers. They are sleeping on the meat.

ð The cats which are sleeping on the meat belong to my brother.

► That: Use for people and things

Exemple : I invited the women to my party. She helped me yesterday.

ð I invited the women who She helped me yesterday to my party.
